BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Every team, minus one (looking at you Punishers), has hit the gridiron for 2021 in the TFL. Through the first two weeks, the contenders and pretenders are pretty clear, with one team continuing to surprise everyone in their first year!
Most of the movement takes place in the mid-pack this week as the better teams are rising to the top, with a new team holding down pole position!
10. Jonesboro Gladiators (0-1)
The Gladiators did not put their strongest foot forward in the season opener against the Boltz in Little Rock, losing 34 to 6. The road won’t get any easier in week three, as Jonesboro will be the first team the Punishers play in the Triumph Football League.
Next Game: @ Arkansas Punishers (0-0) 3/27
9. Shreveport Knights (0-1) -2
The quietest team in the offseason finally hit the field, and it was not pretty. The Knights were blown out in front of their home fans, 44-0 by a Silverbacks team coming off a blowout of their own. Shreveport coming into the season was a potential playoff contender, but a couple more results like their last one, and they will be on the couch come playoff time.
Next Game: NETX Dragons (2-0) 3/27
8. North Texas Rams (0-1) +1
The Rams were one of four teams that had the week off. North Texas fans hope the week away paid dividends as the team heads into a three-game road trip. This team has a lot to show after their 18-point defeat in week one.
Next Game: @ Arkansas Silverbacks (1-1) 3/27
7. Ouachita Reapers (0-1) -1
The Reapers used the week off to lick their wounds from a victory that slipped away in overtime. Ouachita with a couple of competitive weeks could see themselves competing for a playoff spot, a huge leap from where this team was the last time they played!
Next Game: @ Arkansas Boltz (1-0) 3/27
6. Arkansas Silverbacks (1-1) +2
Looks like the Silverbacks rekindled their mojo from 2019, after the week two beatdown of the Shreveport Knights, 44-0. Can the Silverbacks keep this pace? It will be tough, as Arkansas plays EIGHT-straight games to close out the season!
Next Game: North Texas Rams (0-1) 3/27
5. Dallas Bulldogs (1-1) -4
The Bulldogs looked human in week two with a punch in the mouth from the NETX Dragons. By no means are the Bulldogs out of title contention, but the road will be much more challenging now that Dallas has had their weaknesses exposed. The Bulldogs will look to right the ship in week three in the Natural State against the Arkansas Xtra.
Next Game: @ Arkansas Xtra (1-0) 3/27
4. Arkansas Xtra (1-0) +1
The Xtra were supposed to play this week, but have had some issues keeping COVID-19 away from the team. Their game against the Punishers was declared a no contest earlier in the week, giving the team an impromptu bye week. We’ll get a better feel for what type of team the Xtra are as they square off against a hungry Dallas Bulldogs team.
Next Game: Dallas Bulldogs (1-1) 3/27
3. Arkansas Punishers (0-0)
Will the Punishers ever get to play? There is some question if the team will get to play against the Gladiators, as their home field, War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Arkansas, has had some issues with their field. If the team gets to play look for them to be the hungriest team in the TFL!
Next Game: Jonesboro Gladiators (0-1) 3/27
2. Arkansas Boltz (1-0) +2
The Boltz picked up win number one in a blowout, 34-6 over the Jonesboro Gladiators and moved to the lead in the Black Division on point difference. As the weeks roll by, it will be interesting if the Boltz can hold the top spot in the division.
Next Game: Ouachita Reapers (0-1) 3/27
1. NETX Dragons (2-0) +1
Wow! The Dragons have come to play in season number one in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Through two games this first-year squad has blown out the top two finishers from the 2019 season and the Dragons don’t plan on slowing down. There might just be a new sheriff in the TFL!
Next Game: @ Shreveport Knights (0-1) 3/27
